I am a native Tennessean and recent addition to the University of Iowa. My PhD studies were completed in the Vanderbilt University Department of Cancer Biology under the mentorship of Dr. Albert Reynolds, where I investigated the role of a major cell-cell adhesion protein, p120-catenin, in early intestinal tumorigenesis. As a postdoctoral fellow, I investigated the role of a major selenoprotein, Selenoprotein P (SELENOP), in colitis and inflammatory tumorigenesis under the mentorship of Dr. Christopher Williams in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in the Vanderbilt Department of Medicine. Through this training I have developed expertise in epithelial cell autonomous behaviors, cell-cell adhesion, intestinal organoid models, and mouse models of colitis, colitis-associated carcinoma, and colorectal cancer. I am excited to join the vibrant research community here at UI! While not focusing on science, I enjoy spending time with my (very spoiled!) dog, hiking, camping, reading, and puzzles.
